Personnel staffing emergency, intensive care or critical care departments; emergency medical providers such as physicians, nurses, emergency technicians, paramedics, respiratory therapists and other professionals who may respond to a cardiovascular emergency. This course is based on the new 2005 guidelines.

| Objectives: |
ACLS
- Provides the knowledge and skills needed to evaluate and manage the first ten minutes of an adult ventricular fibrillation/ventricular tachycardia (VF/VT) arrest
- Providers are expected to learn to manage ten core ACLS cases:
- A respiratory emergency
- Cardiac arrest: simple VF/VT
- Cardiac arrest: complex VF/VT
- Cardiac arrest: PEA
- Cardiac arrest: asystole
- Pre-arrest: bradycardia
- Pre-arrest: stable tachycardia
- Pre-arrest: unstable tachycardia
- Pre-arrest: acute coronary syndromes
- Stroke
BLS
The course contains a series of online modules that cover the required American Heart Association adult, child and infant CPR sequences for BLS for Healthcare Providers:
- 12 checkpoints that must be covered
- 20 review sections and 19 videos
After successful completion of the online portion, participants are required to attend a Skills Check, which should take about 30 minutes. The Skills Check will begin one hour prior to the start of the ACLS class.
How It Works:
- You complete and submit the ACLS + Online BLS Registration form.
- Barton University staff will email you the instructions and an individual login key to access the web-based course.
- You will log in using your key and complete the course.
- When you are finished with the course, you will print out a course completion certificate.
- You will bring your course completion certificate to your Skills Check session.
- After successful completion of your Skills Check, Barton University will issue you an American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers card, and you will be admitted to the ACLS class.
