This has been an unusual year. We’ve had a lot of cold and wet weather. That’s not entirely a bad thing for the Lake Tahoe area. During 2009, the lake surface level got really low. It’s good that there was a lot of snowpack on the higher mountains, so that streams and rivers will be running into the lake at a good rate all summer. Lake Tahoe needs the water.

Still, it was unusual for there to be  serious snowfall in late May. We’re still seeing some wet weather in June this year.  The humidity in the air is unusual for mountain areas like Lake Tahoe. As a result, you may notice some medical irregularity. For example, I had a cough that lasted unusually long this May. When I went to get it checked out, the doctor told me that it appeared to be due to allergies. I’ve never noticed allergies before. He said it may be due to the late, wet weather.

It’s not just allergens in the air, either. Many locals are complaining of unusual joint and muscle pain that may be due to the off-season barometric pressure. Residents of Tahoe are used to low air pressure, but unseasonal changes may affect our bodies enough for us to notice different health patterns than we’re used to.

Luckily, Barton staff recognizes these changes and can answer questions and help you deal with any issues that require assistance. Please call our qualified professionals.
